Why We Should Record Our Volunteer Hours

I came across this information in my reading and I thought it was interesting because of what is tells us about how important it is to record our volunteer hours.
~ Linda Patterson-Gibson

"Here’s to Volunteers!  Statistics Canada reports that in 2010 nearly 23 million Canadians (84% of the over-15 crowd) donated a total of $10.6 billion to charities while 13.3 million volunteered 2.1 billion hours at their time and expense - the equivalent of a years’ worth of hours for 1.1 million full-time jobs."

PEIAHA October 2012 Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the PEIAHA was held October 20th in Alberton PE. with 45 in attendance. 22 PEIAHA Life Members and 6 CAHA Life Members were recognized.

The guest speaker for the meeting was Sandra Ramsay, a Counsellor with West Prince Mental Health and Addictions. She spoke about some of the information she offers and methods she uses when working with people with drug, alcohol and gambling addictions as well as individuals dealing with mental and physical abuse. This information could be useful to all of us as we all deal with difficulties in our life.

After lunch, we were entertained by ‘Annie’ (aka Wanda Dunbar) from the Centre Line Road. Appearing to talk to her friend Sarah on the phone, she proceeded to tell Sarah about the goings on in her community, with comedy and delight.

PEIAHA Life Memberships were presented to:
  • Linda Patterson-Gibson (Kings County Memorial Hospital)
  • Lillian Adams (Western Hospital)
  • Phyllis Porter (Western Hospital)
Congratulations ladies, and thank you for your contributions to our organizations.

A workshop session was set up to discuss questions on subjects related to how the PEIAHA should proceed regarding funding and how money is used. A report on the information gathered from the four groups will be presented at the Semi-annual Meeting on April 27, 2013.

Thirty-six members attended the meeting.

Premier Robert Ghiz sent a declaration to make the last Saturday in April each year Hospital Auxiliary Appreciation Day on PEI. The declaration was presented by Alberton-Roseville MLA Pat Murphy.

This is a great honour for the PEIAHA as PEI is the only province in Canada to have this honour declared.
