PEIAHA Semi-Annual Meeting April 27, 2013

The Semi-Annual Meeting was hosted by the Western Hospital Hospital Auxiliary in Alberton, PE.
  • Minutes of the October, 2012 annual meeting were read.
  • The second annual Healthcare Auxiliary Appreciation Day was recognized in the PEI Legislature.
  • A roast beef lunch was served and door prizes handed out.
The morning guest speaker was RCMP Constable John Russell, who spoke on Fraud and Home Security.

The afternoon speakers were Dan MacDonald and Grant Hardy. These two men are Advanced Care Paramedics. They explained the level of services ambulance personnel can provide during transportation. They distributed an information pamphlet on their topic. The information is available on line at: http://www.papei.ca/pb/wp_5ffc488e/wp_5ffc488e.html

Auxiliary policies and membership concerns were then discussed and the meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting, our AGM, will be held October 19, 2013.

The Stewart Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will be installed as the next PEIAHA executive at the October AGM for the next two year term.  The five PEIAHA member auxiliaries use a two-year rotation format to identify which auxiliary will host the organization’s Annual and Semi-Annual Meetings.

Volunteer Appreciation Tea

Thursday, April 25, 2013 was Volunteer Appreciation Day for the Kings County Memorial Hospital and Riverview Manor volunteers.

The volunteers were invited to attend an afternoon tea and entertainment in Montague.

Lisa Hurd (foreground) was
introduced by Jean Fallis,
Administrator, Riverview Manor
We were treated to a delightful performance by Lisa Hurd, who performed a one-woman play which deals with the problems of aging and loss of independence.  The play is called "Dance Like A Butterfly" by Aviva Ravel.

“I am passionate about the one-woman play I perform because it is a powerful tool which touches the hearts of all those who see it and, I hope, helps them to understand with compassion the feelings of elderly people and people who have lost at least some of their independence due to physical or other challenges.”

"In all my many years of acting, I have never done anything which has given me back so much and I hope to be able to continue performing it to many more audiences for many years to come."

News from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary

The QEH Auxiliary was recently recognized by their Honours Frank Lewis, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward island, and Dorothy Lewis in conjunction with the QEH Foundation for reaching its $4 million milestone in donations to the QEH with a luncheon at Government House.  At the close of the luncheon, President Dorothy Johnston presented Her Honour Dorothy Lewis with a QEHA Lifetime Membership pin and certificate.

The QEHA has utilized the free Guardian newspaper ad offered to not-for-profit organizations, and an ad calling for volunteers for Lillibet’s and Royal Pantry Eatery has attracted a number of new volunteers.  We are certainly grateful to the Guardian for this service.

The QEH Auxiliary will be holding their annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on May 14, 2013.  Members and volunteers will be recognized for their contribution of volunteer hours (500 and over in increments of 500) with a pin and certificate.
