Last Time In Ellerslie

Auxiliary members from across PEI made their way to the Royal Canadian Legion, Ellerslie, for the Prince Edward Island Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries 2015 Annual Meeting.

This was the last meeting hosted by Stewart Memorial Healthcare Auxiliary, and PEIAHA President Doreen Wooder had another great meeting arranged, with interesting guest speakers and a delicious lunch.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary have taken their turn as the PEIAHA executive a little early and are to be commended for stepping forward.  New PEIAHA President Dorothy Johnston and her team have many years of leadership experience and the PEIAHA moves forward in very capable hands.

One More Time In Ellerslie

The 2015 Annual Meeting of the PEIAHA will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Royal Canadian Legion Home in Ellerslie (1136 Ellerslie Road).

The Stewart Memorial Healthcare Auxiliary will finish their term as the PEIAHA executive at this meeting and auxilians from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary will assume the executive roles.

PEIAHA President Doreen Wooder has planned a full day of information and inspiration. The meeting begins at 10:30 a.m., but come early for a muffin and coffee and a chat with auxilians from across the Island.

It is always a great day when auxilians join together to learn and share. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 24th!

Healthcare Auxiliary Appreciation Day 2015

Four years ago Premier Robert Ghiz proclaimed that the last Saturday every April would be known as Healthcare Auxiliary Appreciation Day on Prince Edward Island.  The PEIAHA are proud to mark this day once again and acknowledge the outstanding volunteer work of Auxilians across our province.

Our semi-annual meeting will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Ellerslie (1136 Ellerslie Road).  A coffee time at 9:45 a.m. will be followed by the business meeting at 10:30 a.m.  It is always a joyful reunion as friends meet again and catch up.

We will be having two speakers on topics Auxilians have asked for more information about: the 811 telehealth service and food handling rules for non-profits.  Each speaker will have time to answer questions after their presentations.

It is a busy time on Prince Edward Island, and auxiliary members are the busiest of the busy, but we hope you will be able to find your way to Ellerslie to share, laugh and grow!

2014 Annual Meeting

The PEIAHA had a wonderful turnout for its 2014 Annual Meeting at the Royal Canadian Legion, Ellerslie.  Over 50 auxiliary members from across Prince Edward Island came for a day of education and networking, joined by guest Shirley Wallace from the Rev. W.J. Phillips Residence Auxiliary in Alberton.

Along with the regular business of an annual meeting, there was the opportunity to learn from other auxiliaries though written and oral reports.  Morning guest speaker Paul H. Schurman spoke of the work of the PEI Seniors' Secretariat, and afternoon speaker Her Honour Dorothy Lewis talked about the 1864 Charlottetown Conference and the 150th anniversary celebrations held this year.  Mrs. Lewis is the wife of PEI Lieutenant Governor Frank Lewis and a member of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary in Charlottetown.

A beautiful lunch was catered by Between Friends, and local musician Roy MacCaull entertained after lunch.  Door prizes and a chance to speak with friends old and new completed the day.

It is often said that healthcare is under pressure, both in terms of financial and human resources.  This can also be said of the volunteers groups who support healthcare facilities - there are never enough people and there is never enough money.  Volunteers listening and supporting each other in the work they do is important, and the PEIAHA helps its members do just that.
